《来自未来的史密特》讲述了一个跨越时空的故事。2045年，警方发现了一个记有一份杀人记录的u盘，根据线索抓住了嫌疑人——软件工程师史密特。史密特含冤入狱半年后, 因为罪証不足被释放, 之后, 他发现了一块可穿越时空的怀表, 他凭藉著其他线索, 怀疑真凶就在2015年，他决定要找出真凶，还自己清白。回到2015年后，史密特结识了自己年轻的父亲史东明以及一名娱乐记者米雪，史密特发现了关于自己案件的线索，他确信真凶就躲在2015，并且跟自己一样是个穿越者，在找查真相的过程中，史密特不仅收获了年轻父亲的友情，还与米雪产生了情愫，两人更由于一些因缘巧合同住了一段时间，逐渐相爱。随着谜底一步步揭开，谁才是真凶 ? 史密特和米雪的爱情也因为真相遂渐清晰而面临了巨大的考验。
